INFORMATION FOR CLIENTS

Work Placements

If you are an asylum seeker, a refugee,  a former refugee, a European Economic Area National or a third country national, or someone for whom English is not your first language you are eligible to participate in Bridges' work placement programmes.

Bridges offers various opportunities to practice your skills and past experience in the Scottish Labour market. Depending on your background and immigration status we offer job tasting sessions, work shadowing, work experience and volunteering opportunities.

These placements are unpaid and are designed to give you valuable experience of working with an employer in Scotland which you will need if you are allowed to work in the UK and are looking for employment.

You would be matched, where possible, with a company that offers similar jobs to the one you had at home, or which you have studied for. We offer opportunities in large and small companies, in the public sector, private sector and the not for profit sector.

The placements are usually for 1 day a week for 12 weeks but can be for longer or more often depending on what else you are doing. We will make sure that being on a placement does not affect any benefits you might be on.

If you are an asylum seeker, and not allowed to work, being on a work shadowing scheme provides you with a chance to improve your English and develop your skills.

If you do have permission to work in the UK it is a great way to keep your skills fresh and learn more about what working here will be like. It provides you with experience to put into job applications and may provide you with a reference.
