Since 2006 Bridges has been running dedicated Empowerment Workshops for asylum and refugee women across Glasgow. Each course consists of 6 days of workshops, with follow up support.
Each course is run for between 12 and 15 women. Transport, Childcare and lunch is provided throughout the courses which are run in various community halls and centres in areas of the city where our clients are housed.
Aimed at women who may be isolated due to lack of opportunities, no childcare, lack of money or poor English, the courses aim to bring women together, form links and networks and provide support by helping them identify their skills, value their own experiences, provide information about new opportunities, help them manage their time effectively and develop their self confidence and assertiveness.
Each of the women, a part of their journey complete s a Personal Action Plan, with short medium and long term goals which Bridge staff and volunteer mentors support the clients with in the following 6-12 months.
The courses have received specific funding in the past from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government and are very popular.
In 2009 the next course will be held in the Spring and one in the Autumn. If you are interested in joining the course or think that you might have someone you could refer to it, who would benefit, please contact Suki Mills 0141 445 4464 and ask for more information.
