The Bridges Programmes is the only work shadow/work experience scheme that caters for both asylum seekers and refugees in Scotland. Work shadowing is a tried and tested way for individuals to observe the work of others and gain first hand experience of a working environment. In the context of asylum seekers and refugees we have found that it is an excellent way to build bridges between different communities and reduce prejudice, fear and hostility on both sides. Our work shadowing scheme is open to all asylum seekers awaiting a decision on their status, and to refugees. All participating asylum seekers and refugees must have a reasonable standard of English.
If you are an asylum seeker, you are probably prohibited from working by current legislation. For those who are used to participating actively in their communities, this can be extremely frustrating. We can help organise a work shadow placement which will give you a great opportunity to get yourself back into the work environment without breaking any rules.
If you are a refugee, you may be experiencing some difficulties getting a job appropriate to your skill level. We can help organise a suitable work shadow within a company to help give you the chance to develop a network of like-minded professionals, to see how your vocation operates in Scotland first-hand and to get some references.
